Grampian Grand Prix 18th May Grampian Transport Museum, Alford

Final Results

For the first of the ScottishPower Youth Road series it was off to the Grampian Transport museum in Alford. A half kilometre circuit that looks easy but is quite challenging with its tight turns. The event took place over two stages so each age group raced twice round the circuit with points awarded for the finishing position in each race then added up to give the overall results.

First to race where the Youth E’s (under 8) it was an Ythan CC podium with Elliot Rowe taking first place with a big lead lapping the field in both races but it was a battle for 2nd and 3rd place with result having to be decided on count back to rank Sam Horrell in 2nd place and Nicol Dall in 3rd.

The top spot in the Youth D’s(Under 10) race was another closely fought battle between Ythan CC locals Tom Horrell and William Cooper with barely a few seconds separating them in the overall result it was Tom who took the win with William in second. In third place after a successful day at Caird Park at the track omnium the day before Glasgow Riderz Imani Pereira-James was making it a full weekend of racing.

In the Youth C (Under 12) race it was all about consistency with the top 5 ranked riders taking the same finish positions in each stage. The Edinburgh Road Clubs Murray Lawson took the win followed by Ythan CC’s Fraser Gault in 2nd and Callum Cooper also of Ythan in third. For the next round of the series Murray will be in the leader’s jersey along with fellow Edinburgh Road club rider Katherine Macleod who took the win for the girls.

It was a small group for the youth B’s race with only 4 riders but that didn’t hold back Struan Pryde, Deeside Thistle, from putting in a big effort to lap his fellow competitors to take the win and the Jersey. Though Ben Fettes, Discovery Juniors, and Johnstone Wheelers riders Lusia Steele and Adam Hazle did put in a big effort to work together to try catch Struan.

For the Youth A’s (under 16) it was a fast and furious racing in both stages with some tactical posturing worthy of an elite race! Calum Johnston, Glasgow Riderz put in to consecutive stage wins to take the overall victory followed close behind by Discovery Junior rider Danny Hedley doing just the same with two second places to take second overall. Lewis Goodlad Ythan CC followed on close behind to take 3rd. In the Girls race Forres CC’s Georgina Mansfield was second with Johnstone Wheeler Jess Millar taking the win.

Event Organiser Malcom Grant said “I’m really pleased with how the day went some great racing from the young riders today. Having the support of the ScottishPower timing equipment has been a great help to getting the results worked out quickly for everyone.”

Ythan CC would like to thank Grampian Transport museum for their support with the venue, Aberdeenshire Sports council for their support and all the volunteers, parents and riders for a great day of racing.
