Event: 11 March 2012
Location: Milton Keynes BMX Track
Report: Royston Rockets

The weather made a mockery of the “Winter Series” part name of the event held last Sunday at the Milton Keynes BMX track as bright sunshine and near summer temperatures greeted riders.

Almost 110 competitors from across the region made their way to the event including 15 riders from Royston. The Milton Keynes club have continued development work on their track over the winter and the event was full of action and colour.

As with the previous rounds the action for the Royston riders started in the male 7 and Under class the win went to Elliott Bowyer with Josh Abbott taking a fine 2nd. In the male 8-9yr class Kele Newall also took 2nd in the A final with Alfie Salmon hard on his wheels in 3rd and Harry Evans taking 4th in the class B final.

The Female 9-10 yr class saw Ella Tomsett taking a hard earned 3rd whilst in the male 10-11yr class James King took 6th place just ahead of team mate Bradley Marvel in 7th and in the class B final Sid Newman took 3rd place. The 12-13 year male class saw Daniel Blanche returning to form with a win having been chased all the way by Miles Fisher who finished in 2nd in the A final.

In the Masters class (30+) Darren Foreman took 6th place overall and in the 17+ female class the win went to Helen Biggs whilst in the male 17+ Cruiser class Royston’s two riders both made the A final with Sam King taking 3rd and Matt Salmon finishing in 8th.

The Regional Winter Series has been hit by the weather with various cancellations so the 5th Round now takes place on April 1st at Braintree who are hosting the event on behalf of the Ipswich club and as usual rider registration closes at 11.00 with racing due to start about 12.00.

The Rockets' next practice sessions is on Sunday morning, March 18th with the gates opening at 10.00pm. See more about the club and BMX racing in the region at www.roystonrockets.co.uk and the BMX East Regional site on www.bmxeast.com or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
