National Series preparations continue in Redditch

East Anglian v Midlands Inter-Regional Round 2 - Redditch
Event: 26th June 2011
Event Details

The BMX regional schedule continued last Sunday with the return round of the annual East Anglia v The Midlands Inter-Regional on the track of the Redditch BMX Club.

The track and surroundings are relatively new and the hard work over many months for the club members to get it ready for this event and their round of the national series in three weeks (July 16/17) was rewarded with riders from across the country registering for the event to gain more track knowledge. Over 330 riders made the journey to take part in a full day's action packed racing which was blessed with blue skies and wall to wall sunshine - although a little too hot for the riders and track officials.

Royston had 16 riders taking part in the event and the action started with the clubs only novice rider to make the long hot journey, James Kirby, taking fifth in the 11-13 year class whist in the expert classes Joshua Abbott took first place in the six and under class B final and the seven year class was once again won by Elliott Bowyer who still maintains a near perfect series score so far.

In the nine year class Kele Newall took fourth in the class B final and in 10 year class James King took third in the A final but a slip out of one of the jumps left Ted Dalleywater having to settle for eighth. The 11 year class saw Miles Fisher, who had been trying his skills at his first international competition in Birmingham the week before take fourth in the A final with team mate Daniel Blanche just behind in sixth after a race long battle.

The 12 year class again saw Aaron Dalleywater showing the rest how to ride the track, taking the win in the A final and in the 13 year class Ethan Vernon, who had also been racing at the European Race the week before took second in a very fast class. Royston's two riders in the in the 15 year class both made the A final with James Handleigh finishing in fourth with Sam Manser taking sixth to record one of his best results of the year. The 16 year category saw Shane Mills take third in the A Final and in the Masters category (30+), Alex Shore-Nye took third in the B final. The final classes of the day were the riders on the 24" wheeled ‘Cruisers' and the ladies 17-29 class saw Royston's Helen Nicholl take second place and in the men's classes Sam King took sixth in the 17-29 year category B final.

Once all the scores were calculated the Regional Challenge Cup went to the Midland Region with 1960 points, only about 70 points ahead of East Anglia! More importantly, The Royston Rockets now lead the regional rankings from the clubs of Braintree and Peterborough.

The next regional event on the race calendar is on July 10th at Royston for round 7 of the 10 round series and Royston's own club's nights continue with the gates opening at 6.00pm.
