Report: East Anglia Winter BMX Regional Round 4

Braintree Bullets BMX Club played host to round 4 of the EA Winter series at the club's Panfield Rd track. 115 riders from as far afield as Birmingham and Derby ventured out in the chilly conditions to the finely prepped Braintree track to blow away the Christmas cobwebs. The host club was supported by 41 riders and the scene was set for some fine winter racing.

The action started with the U7s which was won in fine style by Jack Leahy from Milton Keynes followed by Alec Munday from Dagenham. Morgan Spenner and Luis Hogg stepped up to the plate for Braintree finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. In the B final; 5 year old Stanley Allen took a fantastic 2nd in only his third race meeting.

The racing stepped up a notch in the 8-9 year olds. The B final was awash with Braintree riders and was won by Tyler Carter just in front of his brother Joseph with Ben Sutton picking up 7th in his first race meeting and Alfie Giles in 8th. The A final was a fantastic race and was won by James King from Royston Rockets. Oliver Rowe battled for 2nd place with club mates Tom Stokes and Sydney Allen who settled for 3rd and 4th. Luke Shriever finished 5th and Lee Butson finished 7th in his first regional standard event.

The 8 and under girls class was won by Mollie Foster from Peterborough Phantoms, 2nd place went to Morgan Dorrell from Norwich and Peterborough's Drew Raven was 3rd. Braintree's Betty Porter finished 6th. Libby Smith from Redditch won the 9-10 year old girls.

The home club was represented by Charlie O'Grady in the 10-11 year olds' A final and he finished 3rd just behind the winner Dan Blanche and 2nd place Myles Fisher from Royston Rockets. Noah Shriever and Brandan Boulter had a spectacular mid-pack collision on the 2nd straight, but remounted for the minor placings. Jake Coombs finished 3rd in the B final.

Olivia Howard from Hayes Hawks won the 11-13 year old girls and Lana "THE DANCER" Redgewell stormed home for the win in the 14-16 year old girls.

Josh Legrove was unbeaten all day in the 12-13 year olds and took a big smile to the top step of the podium. Shane Redgewell had a huge battle with Fergus Barker from Norwich and Josh Butson from Braintree in the final. Shane finished 2nd with Fergus and Josh just behind. Beth Shriever rode in with the boys to an impressive 6th and Evan Tulloch rounded off the A final in 8th.The B final saw Kelsey Dixon finish 3rd with club mates Iwan Williams, Cameron Short and Charlie Giles following her home.

The 14-16 year old class is a hotbed of future talent for the Elite class, and was won by Taylor Andrews after a rocky start to the day. Jake Britton held on for 2nd and Lee Golder finished 3rd. Daragh Ward narrowly missed out on the A final following a run off. He wound up his day with a 2nd in the B final with Daniel Killingback finishing 6th.

Onto the 17+ class which gave the race fans a taste of the national quality racing they will be treated to at the club's national race in July. Billy Luckhurst from Hayes Hawks romped home for the win, remaining unbeaten all day. John Lillingstone from Ipswich finished 2nd and Dagenham's Toby Bearne was 3rd. Chris Potter did the home club proud in 5th. Dexter Addington came 3rd in the B final following a run-off.

The Masters was won by Nick Hill from Milton Keynes with club mate Tim Phelps in 2nd.

Keith Bryceland from Dagenham was unstoppable in the 17+ Cruiser class with Braintree's Olly Cutmore in 2nd. Andy Carter finished 5th for the Bullets and Ian Porter was 5th in the B final.

The Braintree Bullets BMX Club Winter Series continues in Sunday 16th January with registration closing at 11.30 and racing from 12.30.
