Report: East Anglia BMX Regional Series Round 6

Royston BMX Club were hosts to the sixth round of the East Anglia BMX 2010 Summer Series last Sunday at their home track in Burns Road, Royston. The day dawned bright and hot and with almost 120 competitors at the event the day was full of action packed, competitive racing on the tight twisty track.

Royston Rockets had over 20 riders taking part in all ages and abilities starting with the 7 and Under novices where Royston packed the top results with Harry Allen taking 5th, Josh Potter finishing in 3rd just behind Callum Barrow in 2nd and William Parker who took a clear win. Moving into the main "Expert" classes, Brendan Salmon won the B final in the 7year class and in the 8yr category Louis Foreman took 5th with Alfie Salmon finishing in 2nd.

The 9year class saw Benjamin Mansfield take 5th with team mates Marmaduke Birt in 3rd and Ted Dalleywater in 2nd. The 10 year class was lead all day by Miles Fisher to claim his first full regional win whilst in the 12's Royston's Matthew Harris was fired up all day to claim 4th overall.

In the 14 year class James Handleigh lead the class home and in the 15's the 2nd place went to Jordan Godfrey which was also the finishing position for Andrew Brooker in the 16's.

In the 17-24 class Richard Townsend finished in 3rd as did David Thompson in the 25-29 category whilst 4th place went to Alex Shore-Nye in the Masters (30+) class and in the Vets (40+) class the win went to Royston's Darren Forman. In the girls classes only two of Royston riders ventured out with Faye Godfrey taking 3rd in the 11-12 year group and Helen Nicholl going one better with a 2nd in the 25+ Ladies cruiser class.

In the male Cruiser classes, Matt Salmon took 5th in the 25-39 class and Carl Birt rounded of the Rockets results with a win in the 45+ class.

The Rockets hold their regular Tuesday night sessions from 6.00pm and next Sunday (1st August) they will travelling up the A11 for the 7th round of the Regional Series at Norwich and then down to Gosport on August 6-8th for the 9th and 10th rounds of the British Cycling National BMX series.
