Newport Nocturne Looking For More Female Riders

Plans for the , Shropshire’s popular floodlit bike race continue apace. However, the new women’s event is still low on entries. The prize fund is £1000 for the women’s race alone and the event regularly attracts crowds of 10,000+. The event takes place on the evening of Saturday 1st September.

Promoter Nick Jeggo said “We really want to support women’s racing. We also have two new sponsors who are really keen. We’ve only got 16 entries at the moment and we need around 25 to make the event work. It’s surprising given that people have been asking for more and higher profile events for women.”

People who aren’t familiar with Britain’s original floodlit bike race might like to view this video. The women’s race will be replacing the ex-Pros event at the start of the clip.

To make the trip even more worthwhile, there is another short event on the same day. Wolverhampton Wheelers have a 19 mile criterium at Stourport closed circuit at lunchtime. With the Nocturne starting around 7pm and Stourport only 45 minutes away from Newport it would make sense to ride both.

The closing date is this Saturday 18/8, so riders need to get their entries in quickly!

The Newport Nocturne takes place on Saturday 1st September in Newport Shropshire. See www.bikerace.co.uk
