The first Richardsons CC Go Ride Racing event of 2013 was held on Sunday 17th March at Filey Country Park. With snow just days before and rain looming Richardsons CC put on a compact route with twisty tracks in the trees and sections of grass track to create a challenging event aimed to be suitable for first time competitors as well as those with more bike riding experience.

38 riders entered on the day from York, Guisley, Doncaster and Leeds as well as riders from the Scarborough and Filey area with age groups from under 8 to under 16. The riders were faced with three races around the park including a McDonalds Drive Thru sprint race and a British Cycling medal race final.

Once practice laps had been done the under 8s and under 10s had the short course to get round with the older riders a more technical route with a tricky hill to get up and a muddy section to tackle.

The Races

Under 8s
A record entry of 17 riders lined up with York’s Oscar Taylor taking two 1st and Hunmanby’s Ozzy Stringer 2nd and 3rd with William Butterworth getting a 2nd and 1st in the medal race.

Under 10s
Joseph Prole dominated the under 10s who had three straight wins. Francis Hizel and Harry Butterworth fought for 2nd and 3rd. Young rider Amber Hull from Guisley took a well deserved 3rd place.

Under 12s
Ripon’s Josh Pillar made the early start worthwhile to take three race wins of the longer track closely followed by Filey rider Megan Simpson who got the second place from Christian Bailey. Great riding techniques and determination were shown by all!!!

Under 14s
William Turley from York took the three race wins but was challenged all the way with RCC Club members Reuben Allanson , Cav Walker, Sam Pillar and Filey’s Bailey Thornton all fighting for the places with some superb riding.

Under 16s
Extra laps of the course faced the older riders with Filey’s Marcus Archer taking 1st from Scalby rider Andy Hume with Ben Adams 3rd on the first race. The sprint race was won by Joe Demey from Adams with RCC rider Archer taking the final British Cycling medal race.
