With just one year to go until the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships arrive in London, British Cycling has today announced a packed schedule of racing with more gold medal sessions available to spectators than ever before.

Next year’s world championships will take place from Wednesday 2 March until Sunday 6 March at the Lee Valley VeloPark with 19 world titles decided across five days of racing. Seven of the 12 sessions will see a rider crowned as world champion - compared to just five sessions at recent worlds.

With each day seeing at least three world titles up for grabs – and tickets available for as little as £10 – fans of the Great Britain Cycling Team will be able to see their heroes battling against the world’s best for the much-coveted rainbow jerseys.

Titles will be decided from day one and the action continues throughout the week with highlights including:

  • Wednesday: The spectacular men’s and women’s team sprints plus the women’s individual pursuit, in which Joanna Rowsell was a winner in 2014.
  • Thursday: Four world titles are up for grabs, including the men’s team pursuit, one of the highlights of any world championships.
  • Friday: Four more golds to be decided with Britain’s women’s team pursuiters looking to hit back at the world-record breaking Australians.
  • Saturday: The prize fighters of the men’s team sprint clash with fans hoping to see Jason Kenny renew rivalries with France’s Gregory Bauge.
  • Sunday: The women’s omnium, the event made famous by Laura Trott will be decided, while the Madison, won in dramatic fashion by Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish the last time the worlds were in Britain, will round off an amazing week’s racing.

Jonny Clay, British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director, added: “Excitement is already building to next year’s event, and we’re confident that we have organised a schedule that ensures that the UCI Track Cycling World Championships will be the premier sporting event in London in 2016.

“Everyone remembers the famous velodrome roar which lifted so many British riders to success at London 2012 and I’m confident that the schedule for the World Championships will create the same levels of excitement with several world titles up for grabs every day. Each session will have a mixture of sprint and endurance events to ensure that fans are able to witness the full spectacle of live international track racing.

“We have already announced an accessible and affordable ticketing process for next year’s championships at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park making this an event not just for cycling fans, but also anyone who loves seeing the world’s best sportsmen and women up close.”

Tickets for the event will be available from £15 for adults and £10 for concessions via Ticketmaster and will be released in three phases.

  • British Cycling members will initially be given four days of priority access from Tuesday 31 March to Friday 3 April.
  • A second priority access period will see tickets made available to anyone who signs up to the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships website from Wednesday 8 April to Friday 10 April
  • Tickets will then go on general sale on Tuesday 12 May.
