Report: Wolverhampton Wheelers Track League

Results | Rankings (after 4 rounds)

David Brookes reports from round four of the Fred Williams track league from Wolverhampton's Aldersley track.

Matty Lewis has already built up a significant lead in the Freewheelers rankings but competition lower down remains intense with particularly entertaining Italian Pursuit events and a win for Adam Phillips in the Freewheelers B Scratch race.

Early breaks in the two Unknown Distance races proved beneficial with Wheeler Tony Deleon taking the Senior B and Halesowen rider Jack Hibberd taking the Senior A events. William Hyde of Lichfield CC challenged the dominance of Jack Escrit taking first place in the Youth Points race with Jack second and Isabelle Clarke, another Lichfield rider, taking fourth place.

Only one point separates Wheeler Andy Jones from University of Birmingham rider Will Rudgard in the Senior B Rankings. Jacob Kelly and Luke Selibas both of Lichfield are not too far behind, and Mark Brown of the University of Birmingham lies in fifth place (the accompanying photograph shows Mark leading out all the main contenders). This should make for very interesting racing as the season progresses, not forgetting the female competitors with Lara Nyman of University of Birmingham, Julie Cooper of Lichfield and Wheeler Kate Evans all so close to each other.

After the Senior A and B Italian Pursuit events and the drama of Xavier Disley putting down sufficient power to snap his chain the evening finished with the customary 10 km Handicap. Steve Wilkinson of Welland Valley CC took the 5 km Sprint with Mark Brown second and Wheeler Adam Lewis third. The overall winner was George Moore of CC Giro with Jack Hibberd second and Jess Wieckowski of team Nemesis in third place.
