Wolverhampton Wheelers Track League July 7

At round 10 of the Wolverhampton Wheelers Track League, yet again the Freewheelers races provided a large measure of excitement for the evening. Sam Jones took first place in the Handicap race but the one lap Handicap that followed, proved the most engaging with Kate Britton taking first, Claire Fielding second and Sam third, all three valiantly holding off scratch riders, Matt Lewis and Ben Hardwick.
In the Senior B events, Stephen Croggon of Beacon cycling club picked up more valuable points taking the eight lap Scratch race and was also as a member of the winning team in the Italian Pursuit which also included Chris Brookes, Pete Hodgetts, Mark Lewis, Martin Pockett and Darren Shaw (Stourbridge Velo). Meanwhile in the Senior A Italian Pursuit, the team of brothers Jack and Tom Hibberd and Luke Grivell-Mellor were not quite fast enough to beat Adam Lewis, Jason Colledge and Jess Wieckowski.
Youth rider Charlotte Broughton returned after an absence of a couple of weeks to an unusually small field of riders in her category but still demolished all opposition except in the Youth Team Time Trial where James Ireson and Ryan Phillips took the honours. The traditional 10 km Handicap was the final highpoint of the evening with Junior rider Josh Burke taking the intermediate sprint and going on to take a well deserved fourth place overall, Stephen Croggon taking first, Nick Jeggo second and Andy Jones third.
