New Dernys and Tandem Pilot Training for Manchester Velodrome
Posted: 4th December 2009
With the recent visit of the UCI Track World Cup and Paralympic World Championships, cycling in Manchester will benefit from some legacy funding, including the users of Manchester Velodrome. Two new Simon Dernys have been ordered and another two will be having an overhaul and new paint job. That will bring the stock of Simon Dernys at the Velodrome to six.
There is also some funding available to train accredited riders to become tandem pilots for visually impaired riders who want experience the thrill of Manchester Velodrome. The Velodrome now owns two Dolan tandems, and Eastlands Velo, which is based at the velodrome, owns another three Dolan tandems.
The course tutor will be none other than Beijing Gold Medallist Barney Storey. Please register your interest by emailing Bob Barber at Manchester Velodrome on b.barber@manchestervelodrome.com
There are likely to be a number of Taster sessions nominated per week, when visually impaired riders can book on, with a Rota created for tandem pilots nominated to cover that session. If no riders book, then the (two) pilots can ride the session f.o.c. on a Tandem, sharing the front seat (though not at the same time!).
