MEN'S TEAM PURSUIT

Qualifying | Full Result

Great Britain put in a huge qualifying performance to qualify first for the Team Pursuit, posting a time a full 11 (yes eleven) seconds faster than their nearest rivals Spain. Here's how the qualifying panned out:

Poland set the early pace setting a 4.11 benchmark. France started hot and looked like challenging but lost a man early and faded badly. The Belgian team worked themselves into the ground with one rider collapsing at the end of his effort and requiring medical attention. Ireland splintered badly losing a man early then third man David McCann dropped with around 1km to go. Ukraine squad were well-drilled and tight on the track and went to the top of the board with 5 teams to go with the first sub 4.10 ride. The Ukranian time stayed top until the quick finishing German squad bettered their time by 4 tenths of a second. From then on in the times continued to be whittled down, with first Spain dropping under the 4.09 mark. Then came the storming GB team, who immediately knocked a huge 11 seconds off the lead time. What could Denmark do in response? At 1km the Danes were 1.6 seconds off the pace. At 3km they were 8.7 seconds down and by the finish they were out of contention for a medal ride.

There's no better way of demonstrating GB's supremacy than looking at the split times: 1 sec up after 250m. 2 secs up at 750m. 2.6 up at 1km. 3.3 up at 1250. 4 up at 1500m. 4.6 at 1750m. 5.1 at 2000m. 5.9 at 2250m. 6.6 at 2500m. 7.3 at 2750m. 7.8 at 3km. 8.4 at 3250m. 9.3 at 3500m. 10.1 at 3750. 3.57.709 11.1 secs up at the finish. Awesome. Enough said.

WOMEN'S KEIRIN

1st Round | Full Result

A tough contest with only the winner of each round going through to the next round (the rest must go through the repechage). World Champion Guo of China was first to qualify in Round 1, beating Cueff of France in a sprint. GB's Jess Varnish was up in Heat 2 but sadly was disqualified for overtaking the Derny. In the restarted contest it was Elisa Frisoni who qualified.

Heat 3 was dominated by Anna Meares who didn't even see the other riders in her heat, going straight for the Derny and not looking back. GB's Becki James was up in Heat 4 and gave it everything in front of her home crowd, but was eventually overcome by Belarus' rider Olga Panarina.

McCullough of Australia progressed from Heat 5, narrowly beating Gong of China on the line. British hopes rested on Vicky Pendleton in Heat 6 and she didn't disappoint, beating Simona Krupeckaite by a hair's breadth on the line.

Repechages | Full Result

Last chance saloon for riders to progress and just like the 1st round, only the winner qualifies.

First to come through was Simona Krupeckaite, holding off a challenge from Helen Casas Roige of Catalunya. Heat 2 saw Cueff comfortably come through in a heat were nobody wanted to make a move until the last moment while in Heat 3 Anges Ronner of the Netherlands outwitted Dabrowska of Poland.

Heat 4 and Becki James last shot at progressing in the competition. A tough ask against the experienced Yvonne Hijgenaar and Russian Baranova. James took first wheel behind the Derny with Hijgenaar slotting in back in fourth. In the end, Hijgenaar and Baranova were too strong and overcame Becki, with Baranova progressing to the next round after a photo finish.

Heat 5 saw Olivia Montauban of France go through to round 2, while Miriam Welte beat Gong on the line to win Heat 6 to complete the 2nd round lineup.

WOMEN'S TEAM PURSUIT

Qualifying | Full Result

Great Britain's Lizzie Armitstead, Wendy Houvenaghel and Joanna Rowsell qualified fastest with a 3.23, just a second shy of their own world record, but 4 seconds faster than their nearest rivals Germany. Third were Australia, who would face Netherlands in the Bronze medal rideoff.

Gruppo Sportivo set the early benchmark with a tidy 3.39.992. France were the next team to raise the bar with a 3.34.912 ride. The French sat atop the leaderboard until the Belgian triumvirate took to the boards and posted a 3.32.889. Next to go faster was the tight German squad who rode an impressive pursuit resulting in a 3.27.482, the first team to go under the 3.30 mark. Australia were baulked when Belinda Goss' rear wheel moved in the dropout on takeoff. Their qualifier was restarted and they eventually posted a 3.28.751, going second with just GB and Lithuania to go.

GB took to the track to a huge roar from the crowd and the Star Wars theme music (!). They started steadily, just behind the Germans at the 1km mark. At 1500 metres they'd edge ahead by 0.4 of second. From here they just pressed harder and harder, each split time producing a roar from the home crowd that must have been worth a few tenths in its own right.

MEN'S JKA KEIRIN

1st Round (First two qualify, rest to repechage) | Full Result

In Heat 1 Awang wheelied over the line first just ahead of World Keirin Champ Max Levy of Germany. Heat 2 saw last year's winner Matt Crampton line up with a lot to live up to. He took up first wheel behind the Derny with fast man Shane Perkins of Australia slotted in behind him. Attacks came early with Crampton overrun. But he kept his cool and left it late to unload his awesome power, taking the win from Perkins while behind Spicka and Okabe crashed at speed on the banking. Both riders were OK, minus a few layers of skin.

In the final heat Edgar and Kenny went head to head. Kenny took first wheel while Edgar took his preferred fourth in the line. When the Derny peeled off, Edgar came over the top and took it on from the front, taking the win with a great show of speed with Kenny joining him in the 2nd Round.

MEN'S SCRATCH RACE

Qualifying

Heat 1 | Full Result

With only the first 12 qualifying the Scratch heats are more about the back of the race than the front. Big move of the heat was from the aggressive Cheung of the Giant trade team, who broke free at half distance in an attempt to guarantee safety by taking a lap. He took his lap only to drop back immediately, negating his effort and eventually retiring.

Heat 2 | Full Result

Main move of Heat 2 was from Colby Pearce, Howard Lee and Lagkuti, who cleverly worked together to gain a lap and guarantee safety. All eyes were on Chris Newton, the only GB rider in the competition, who was quiet early on and in the latter stages joined late move with four other riders to get away, take a lap of their own and guarantee safe passage into the final.
