British Cycling is delighted to confirm the introduction of two new qualifying sessions for the 2019 HSBC UK | National Track Championships to its track season calendar.

The events will take place at the Derby Arena on Saturday, November 17, and Newport’s Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales on Sunday, December 9. Both new events will give track riders further opportunities to race and to register qualifying times in the men’s kilo, women’s 500m time trial and men’s and women’s individual pursuit for January’s HSBC UK | National Track Championships – the pinnacle of the domestic track calendar.

In a further positive development for British track racing, the racing sessions will run in conjunction with the new, recently announced, two-part British Cycling National Para Cycling Track League Meeting fuelled by PP SIMTECH, which will offer the nation’s para-cyclists increased opportunities to race in a competitive environment.

Jonathan Rigby, British Cycling’s Commercial Director, said:

“It has been an ambition of ours for some time to take steps to further improve and develop the domestic track scene. The introduction of a known, guaranteed qualification process for some individual events at our national championships, and the subsequent additions of these racing opportunities to the calendar, will do just that.

“We’ve been delighted to be able to work closely with the teams at both Derby and Newport to be able to stage these events, which will give riders the opportunity to register a qualifying time in a professional, competitive environment.”

The full details of the qualification criteria for the 2019 HSBC UK | National Track Championships are available here.

The championships will once again include a full programme of para-cycling events, and the new para-cycling track league is designed to create further opportunities for riders to race competitively as they prepare to do battle for national titles in January.

Jonathan Rigby continued:

“The development of the British Cycling National Para Cycling Track League Meeting fuelled by PP SIMTECH is a significant step forward, and we’re extremely grateful to PP SIMTECH Solutions Ltd. for their generous sponsorship of the event. We recently announced that, in a world-first, para-cycling events will take place at December’s TISSOT UCI Track World Cup in London, and we’re delighted to be at the forefront of the development of opportunities for para-cyclists.”

Riders will be able to register to compete at Derby here and here, and at Newport here and here.

Any organisers or Velodrome Management Teams who may wish to stage a timed session are encouraged to contact the Major Events Team at British Cycling.
