Event: 20 July 2014

The 31st Bushey Festival is delighted that the Big Bushey Bike Ride will ride again this year – so save the date: Sunday July 20.

Riders can either choose the shorter, gentler route of 18miles (32km) or the longer, more challenging route of 32 miles (53km). Both routes start and finish at Bushey Rangers FC at the Moatfield, Bushey, WD23 3JU taking riders into the Herts and Bucks countryside.

2013 saw our first attempt to stage a cycle sportive event. It’s probably just as well that we didn’t fully appreciate what we were letting ourselves in for. Hopefully it will be easier this year. Our garage will not have to be turned into a road sign production shop for a start. None of it would have been possible without the support and advice of British Cycling.

Our aims were to encourage people of all ages to get on their bikes and enjoy some exercise and the beautiful local countryside, and to raise money for local charities supported by the Bushey Festival. I think we achieved both our aims. 101 riders took part with ages ranging from 12 to 67, which was fantastic. We hope to surpass that number this year. We were especially pleased, as it was clear that for quite a few riders it was their first official cycling event, and it was good to see complete strangers getting together and organising future rides. In addition we were able to donate over £600 to charity thanks to your efforts.
