Summer Sizzler Round 2

Sunday the 8th August saw the final round of the Summer Series take place at Newport Velodrome. With some of the best racing action scene at the Velodrome to date the series has been a great success and enjoyed by all. Welsh Cycling would like to thank all of the volunteers, helpers and riders for making the events enjoyable and great to watch.

Once again the racing was fast and furious accross all Youth AB and C cats and it was the same names as in round 1 that were topping the result sheets at the end of the day.

Sunday the 18th July saw some of the UK's top young track riders take to the boards of Newport Velodrome. The small number of entries certainly did not make the racing any less exciting for the riders and spectators.

With the help of Newport Velo, Newport Olympic and volunteers from various other clubs the event was a huge success and everyone had a great day of racing.

There were many noteable performances throughout the day so here is a brief run down of some of the higlights.
In the Youth A boys it was a day long battle between Robbie Westwood and Matt Cross. Robbie was in superb form in the individual efforts where he clocked some Championship winning times in the process. The bunch races were a closer affair between the two riders with sharing the spoils in the Devil and Scratch race.

The Youth A Girls saw Rebecca Hunt in good form after her 4th place in the National Youth Circuit Series the day before and Sarah Crowley battle it out for an equal share of the 1st and 2nd positions. Hunt claimed the 1500mtr TT and Scratch whilst Crowley used her sprint and speed to her advantage in the Devil and 500mtr TT where she finished 3rd overall in the boys.

The Youth B Girls saw Emily Haycox dominate in all 4 events putting the young Maindy rider in good stead for the up coming National Champs in August. Abigail Dentus filled the second spot in all 4 events and will be looking to overhall Haycox in the Nationals.

Shaun Carter and Christopher Brettell shared the top two places in all 4 events making for some great racing action in the bunch events.

In the Youth C Boys James Tillett was in great form winning all 4 of his events. James Minto, Joespeh Linehan and Samual Tillett were locked in battle throughout the day and after a nasty crash in the scratch race the Youth C boys all did really well to dust themselves off and produce some of the most exciting racing action of the day.

Mererid Hunt of Towy Riders was also another rider to dominate her age group only dropping to 2nd in the 500mtr TT. Bethany Maunders filled the 2nd spot for most of the day until a superb ride in the 500mtr TT to over hall Hunt to avoid the clean sweep.

A great day was had by all and entries are still being taken for Summer Sizzler 2: more>>>
Please note the closing date for entries
