Youth races to precede the ‘Get Connected' Wales Open Criterium.

For the third consecutive year, the streets of Abergavenny will be graced with some of Britian's best up and coming cyclists as they get chance to show off their talent in front of the large crowds that turn up to watch the Elite races later in the evening.

It might not be a national series event, but if the quality of the fields and previous winners is anything to go by, together with the fantastic cash prizes on offer, this year seems certain to attract more than the 82 youngsters who started last year's event.

With previous winners of these events including Sam Harrison who came over the line just a few centimetres in front of Josh Papworth in 2008, and on the same night Sam Lowe and Harvey Lowe both showing their respective categories how to lead off the front, to last year when Owain Doull and Elinor Barker stood out from the crowd to record victories.

This year's races will retain the same format as last years, starting at 18.30 with a combined Youth D and E race, followed by a Youth C race and then finishing with a combined Youth A and B race of around 30 minutes. Fields are limited in size so make sure you get your entry in early. Riders will all be seeded depending on their National Ranking Points.

Following the Youth races once again there'll be the Abergavenny ‘Traders' race, then the ‘Get Connected' Wales Open Criterium which forms part of the Elite Circuit Race Series.

Of course if you really wanted to make a weekend of it, then on the Saturday there's a choice of things to do - starting at 9.00am you can ride the Iron Man Sportif, either 25 miles, 50 miles or 100 miles; at around 2.00pm Youth riders who bring a mountain bike along with them can race in the dirt crits in Bailey Park, where there'll also be It's a Knockout and ‘Bicycle Magic', which always proves incredibly popular.

Entrance fee for Youth D and E is £3.00 and for all other categories is £5.00.
