Abergavenny Sprint Star Becky James has been enjoying some fine form recently beating truly world-class opposition in Cottbus, Germany.

Becky on the podium with two of the biggest names in Women's Track Sprinting.

Last weekend saw Round 2 of the Sparkassen Cup taking place at the Cottbus track. On Saturday, Becky rode the Sprint competition, finishing 5th after qualifying 3rd fastest with an 11.30. The only woman to beat her (in Germany the boys ride with the Women in some races) was Kristina Vogel, reigning German Sprint, Kierin and 500m TT champion. In the 5th-8th ride off, Becky had some stiff opposition in the form of Belarussian Olga Panarina, Dutch star Willy Kanis and Russian Olga Stretslova but dispatched them all to take 5th place.

On Sunday, Becky's good form continued in the Kierin where she won both qualifying rounds before taking the final by around 3 bike lengths. Again, she beat Vogel into 2nd place and Kanis into 3rd. These results just confirm what we have known for a while-we have a really talented Welsh sprinter coming through the ranks. Don't bet against Becky adding a Senior World Championships to the Junior titles that she won in 2009 in the near future!
