Action Medical Research's flagship 24-hour cycle race, RIDE24, has joined forces with the 24 Heures Velo race held at the world famous Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans, France. Teams taking part in RIDE24, which takes place at the Top Gear test track in Surrey on the weekend of 19-20 June, will now also be competing for a free team place in the prestigious 24 Heures Velo event at the legendary Le Mans motor racing circuit on 21-22 August.

Now in its second year, the RIDE24 endurance relay for road racers was originally inspired by the by the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans motorsports race. It is organised by children's charity Action Medical Research and supported by British Cycling.

Also new last year, the 24 Heures Velo team cycle race took place on the very same track made famous by sports car racing's oldest endurance race. Both cycling events are won by the team that completes the most laps and therefore travels furthest in 24 hours.

The free team place has been kindly donated to the charity by Romain Gasnal and the Claude Gasnal Organisation, organisers of the 24 Heures Velo. It comes in time for more than 80 UK teams who are already signed up for RIDE24 to step their training up a gear.

RIDE24 event manager Sarah Stevenson of Action Medical Research says: "This is a fantastic opportunity for riders taking part in our event. The winning team are now set to not only win the coveted RIDE24 winners' trophy but a place in this stunning event in France and possibly a punt at that winners' title too!"

There are still a few places available for teams of four in the RIDE24 UK event. For more details and to register, visit the website www.action.org.uk/ride24.
