It's easy to think of an event like the UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup as just a bike race. But with so much going on both at the Dalby Forest and in the surrounding area the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup in Yorkshire is much more like a festival.
Friday: The Beginning
The excitement gets underway on the evening of Friday 23rd April with a Pro Sprint Eliminator race in the town of Pickering next to the Dalby Forest. Over the course of the evening the riders will battle their way through a number of eliminator rounds, needing to place in the first two every time to make it through to the final. With all different kinds of man-made obstacles on the course the man and woman who take the final victory will be truly worthy of their big cash prize. You meanwhile can take the opportunity to enjoy the rest of the evening in one of Yorkshire's most picturesque towns as we celebrate the official opening of the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup in Yorkshire.
Saturday: Watch the Juniors, have a go yourself
The cross country racing gets underway on Saturday morning with the Junior men and women taking to the course to show how it's done. They'll no-doubt attract an appreciative (and inquisitive) crowd as once these races are done and dusted 350 members of the general public will get to have their own World Cup challenge as they ride two loops of an extended version of the world cup course.
Sunday: The big one
The final day of racing in the forest sees the opening Elite rounds of the 2010 UCI Mountain Bike Cross-Country World Cup in Yorkshire take place with first the women and then the men competing to see who will be the first leaders of the competition - a fitting climax to what everyone hopes will be a first class weekend of world class racing.
Alongside the racing and participation there will be plenty to keep spectators entertained, from the team tech area for those keen to get behind the scenes through to an exhibition and retail village and food zone to keep eyes and bellies occupied for the duration of the event.
Keep checking back to this website for more details about the event including details of how to enter the World Cup Challenge.
