Thirteen young riders enjoyed mild sunny weather for the third of five races in the Hinckley Flyers ‘5’ Go-Ride Race Series on 17 March.  Organisers were particularly pleased to welcome several riders representing Welland Valley Whizzkids.

The first race along the twisting-turning course was an individual time-trial event in which the winners were Florence Morgan (U6), Harry Whitelegg (U8), Ryan Parsons (U10) and Oliver Haines (U12), who had the fastest time overall at 00:1:17.

Next came the endurance race where the riders were given 10 minutes to cover as many laps as possible which turned out to be eight for the stronger riders but it was clear that everyone was putting in a good effort and working hard.

The last race of the afternoon was a 3-lap backwards race where the riders had to complete three laps of the course but in the opposite direction.  They took the reversal of the bends in their stride with the fastest riders being Oliver Haines (U12), Oliver Morgan (U10), James Bradshaw (U8) and Will Bradshaw (U6).

The afternoon was rounded off with a well-earned chocolate cornflake cake (or two in some cases!).

Thanks go to all the parents who helped with either setting up, time-keeping/lap-counting and tidying up at the end.  The next race in the Hinckley Flyers ‘5” Go-Ride Race Series is on Saturday 9th June 2012 – see you there!

Essex Roads Go-Ride Races

Twenty-one enthusiastic young riders braved wet conditions to take part in two races on a tight and technically demanding circuit on the vehicle test track at Ford Motor Co in Dunton.

Riders began proceedings with a prologue time trial, going on 30 second intervals with a held start. The second race was a scratch bunch race on the same circuit and many riders displayed excellent handling skills on the tight and slippery corners. Fortunately the were no incidents but some excellent, close and competitive racing.

The first 3 boy and girl overall in each age category were presented with gold, silver and bronze British Cycling medals and all participants were also awarded an official British Cycling water bottle.
