Launching a new framework

From Spring 2023 – Spring 2024, we will commence a phased launch of a new coaching framework that revolutionises the way we conceive, structure and deliver coach education. This is the first opportunity we have had, to reimagine the overall framework of training and development for coaches, since the introduction of the UKCC* in 2006. It is a piece of work that will have a significant impact on the sport for years to come.

We are delighted to share the phased launched plan of the new coach education framework. We want our coaches to be the best coach they can be, where progression is made within the place and space they coach.

Have a look at this recording of our live webinar event to our qualified coaches in February, that unveiled the new framework and how both new and current cycling coaches will be able to access relevant and engaging learning experiences in their domain and discipline:

*United Kingdom Coaching Certificate – a national framework implemented across sport with the aim of standardising coach education.

Frequently asked questions

As we’ve progressed through this project, we’ve heard numerous questions. We have compiled these to develop our frequently asked questions. You can view these here.

What questions do you have?

Of course, our FAQs are not an exhaustive list of questions. If you have further questions, please ask us here.

We cannot commit to providing an individual response to every question. However, we will regularly review responses and build our FAQs from the most regularly asked questions.

Introduction to the project

We are proud of our education offer for coaches, but we know it can be better.

We are embarking on an exciting journey at British Cycling to revolutionise the way we educate and train our coaches.

Update on our work so far

Over the last two years, British Cycling’s Education team have been engaged with a project to revolutionise the way we educate and support our extensive network of coaches.

We have been listening to a whole range of different groups to better understand coaching. A big part of this was listening to people already coaching, or interested in coaching, out in the regions.

Taken together, our work has allowed us to create a revolutionary approach of different learning pathways for coaches in different spaces.
