Get on Track!
Track World Cup Legacy Programme
Scottish Cycling, in partnership with Glasgow Life and British Cycling, are delighted to launch our Club Legacy programme ahead of this November’s UCI Track World Cup taking place at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
‘Get on Track!’ is aimed to increase the number of riders participating in Track Cycling and grow the Coaching workforce in clubs able to deliver Track Cycling activity.
We have created a package for 5 of our Go-Ride clubs, giving riders in the club the opportunity to try out the discipline of Track Cycling, and provide financial support for two of their club coaches to become qualified Track Coaches.
The number of Track Cycling Coaches in Scotland is low compared to other disciplines, so this will allow clubs to increase the number of opportunities for riders to experience a range of disciplines, as well as growing the workforce able to support Track coaching.
There are two main aspects to the programme:
Taster Session at Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome
Clubs will be provided with 2 hours of track time for a club taster session. This will be fully supported by our Glasgow Go-Ride coaches, with the sessions aimed at riders within the club who have never been on the Track before.
This will be available to riders aged 8 and above, will include the cost of hire of a track bike, helmet and shoes if required. These will take place on the following dates at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome: Sunday 5th January, Sunday 12th January, Sunday 19th January, Sunday 26th January and Sunday 2nd February from 1030-1300. Please indicate on your application all of the dates that would work for your club as it may not be possible to get your first choice.
Growing the Coaching Workforce
To support a subsequent increase in interest in using the Track and to ensure sustainability, we will support two coaches from each club to undertake their Level 2 Track Cycling Coaching qualification, allowing them to run future sessions in the velodrome. Following attendance at the Track Cycling Coaching Course, club coaches will be supported by our Glasgow Go-Ride coaches to run track sessions, ensuring momentum and providing valuable mentoring and CPD for the selected coaches
Coaches should have already completed their UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification.
Candidates must be able to attend the specified course which is run by Scottish Cycling, and their place is not transferable to any other courses. The course will take place on either Saturday 25th/Sunday 26th April or Saturday 2nd/Sunday 3rd May. Please hold both of these dates and we will confirm the final dates in due course.
