The Go Ride Wales Tour is underway offering local children who have been inspired by the Tour de France the opportunity to engage with some local coach led racing and to potentially pull on a Yellow Jersey.
Stage 6 - The Final
The final stage of the Go-Ride Tour took place back where it all started in Cardiff as the riders took to the same track where Geraint Thomas’s career began at The Better Maindy Centre.
Over 15 riders took on the final stage which was jam packed with Team and individual racing including Team Time Trials and a domestique race where riders needed to get a bottle to the team leader as fast as possible. We even had a Sprint lead out race.
Individual races included a circuit race, sprint and a slow race so riders could display their track stand skills, the races really brought out and challenged the riders skills and along with the expert coaching really showcased just how much the riders had come on in the 2 hour session.

Stage 3
Stage 3 of the Tour took place just outside of Pontypridd hosted by the Bike Doctor Cycling club.
A warm evening brought the riders out in force with 60 riders taking on the evenings challenges and hoping to win their very own Yellow Jersey.
The riders were split into 3 groups of differing ages to take on a Mountainous stage for the older riders and a technical twisty course for the younger cyclists challenging the bike and bunch handling skills.
With the winners rewarded for some great racing, the action now heads West for Stage 4.
Stage 2 moved along the South Coast to Newport and the Newport International Sports Village, Home of the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales.
Ran in conjunction with Newport Live the racing took part on the Athletics stadium following a coaching session delivered by our HSBC UK Go Ride coach, Owen.
“The Riders taking part have progressed from the balance bike sessions ran in the Velodrome over the past few years and today has given them a good first taste of competition.”
The riders worked on cornering and sprinting, often a key component of the first week of the Tour de France before competing in a mass start race along the 400m of the athletics track.
To finish with the riders worked on slow speed bike control with games of Shrinking Islands to present 2 more Yellow Jerseys to the young riders.
Stage 1 The opening stage of this years #GoRideWales Tour kicked off in the capitol alongside the Let’s Ride Pop up Event in Llandaff Fields.
The course saw young riders take part in an off road course, through trees and over the Col du Plastic in short bunch races before the riders were then joined by the adults for laps of the park as part of the pop up event.
A great start to these years events with more to follow.
