Cycle Hire Scheme for Newport

Newport Council is exploring the introduction of a cycle hire scheme across the city and would like to hear the views of residents and visitors to the city. Feedback is required by the 31st May 2019 and can be completed via the link below.

As part of the City's wider consultation on Sustainable transport one area under consultation is the provision of a cycle hire scheme, similar to that found in neighbouring cities such as Cardiff.

The scheme would support the work the council is delivering to encourage more journeys to be made by sustainable travel and contribute to Newport's continued transformation as a modern city.

In order to understand the appetite for such a scheme and to identify locations the survey has been created and can be completed here.

Welsh Cycling's South East Development officer Dan Coast welcomed the potential introduction of the scheme "It's great to see the council taking a keen intererst in not only this scheme but the wider provision for cycling across the city. Being the physical home for Welsh Cycling and housing such a world class facility such as the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales, it makes perfect sense for us to also look at the provision to allow everybody the access and support to take to a cycle not just for sport but also for everyday travel.

Newport already has a large social and club cycling scene in the  city and our regions HSBC Go-Ride coach has been working closely with local schools and Newport Live to maximise opportunities for young people to take part in the sport of cycling but we know we can do more to support, infrastucture and encouragement to take to two wheels as is already happening in Cardiff."

The Survey will close on the 31st May,
