Meet Shieley Trow

Shirley trained as a Breeze leader in Spring 2018, with her motivation to become a leader coming from the support Breeze rides had given her in the past, together with the feel good factor and the opportunity to ride with like minded women. Shirley felt she wanted to give something back to her community and help other women enjoy Breeze Bike rides in her area.

Since training as a Breeze Leader, Shirley has run over 40 rides, with the majority of these rides being full! In the early stages, Shirley was concerned that demand would be low and she may struggle to fulfil her ride quota for the year.  Welsh Cycling helped promote these rides initially, which quickly created a demand, with rides filling up fast.  Shirley now runs regular rides based around Deeside

with a mix of regulars and new women attending.  Many rides start from Deeside Leisure Centre and go out onto the Wirral or head the other way into the Cheshire countryside.  Average distances range from 12 miles up to 45 miles, the pace is also varied if it is a beginners ride plus there is the very important coffee/cake stop or even a Pub ride for half a lager n a bag of crisps!!

As ride demand and spaces has been high, it is great to know that one of her regulars is now waiting to train as a Breeze Leader – this will enable more women to take part in these rides.

Shirley commented “Leading Breeze rides give me a sense of well being, it makes me feel happy and I think that passes on to the group as they all enjoy themselves and I’ve not had a person never come back for another ride”.  “Riding is just in my heart and the company along the way, always makes any ride great, even in the rain”!

Gaynor Davis (North Wales Participation Officer) commented “It is so great to hear Shirley’s story, from initially being a participant on Breeze Rides, Shirley has been inspired to train as a leader herself. She now spreads the Breeze message and creates opportunities for other women to join Breeze rides.  This is how Breeze grows, through participation and inspirational women like Shirley – many congratulations on being our Volunteer of the month – you deserve it”

Thank you to Shirley Trow for becoming our Volunteer of the Month for May, Shirley will automatically be entered for 'Volunteer of the Year' Award at the Welsh Cycling Annual Awards 2019 later this year.
