HSBC UK Cyclo-Cross National Trophy, Round 2
Irvine, Scotland
All eyes were on Irvine this weekend as Walkers Cycling Club, alongside lots of incredible volunteers set out to deliver the first ever HSBC-UK Cyclo-cross National Trophy event in Scotland. The weather could not be better, and racing throughout the weekend was outstanding.
Racing took place across both Saturday and Sunday, with National Trophy regulars traveling from the south as well as lots of local riders taking to the startline. In the Elite Men's race Cameron Masson was the top placed Scottish rider. Masson battled in a group of five throughout the race and just lost out on a podium spot in a sprint finish against Callum Macloud.
In the Women's race, the Scots rode brilliantly. Commonwealth Games rider Eileen Roe pulled off an outstanding performance to come forth. The cheers from the raucous crowd doubtless spurring her on. Fresh from the Youth Olympics, Edinburgh RC rider Anna Flynn came fifth overall and first Junior. While Scottish mountain biking favourites Isla Short and Kerry Macphee secured impressive top 20 finishes.
It's safe to say that the course in Irvine proved popular with those who had travelled to the event. Scottish Cycling spoke to some of those riders to get their opinion.
Adeline Moreau, 7th place finisher at 3 Peaks CX 2018 said, "The sand was hard, the hills were hard, the off camber was hard. I didn't get much chance to look at the scenery during the race. Bicycle racing tourism has taken me to some weird and unexpected places but Irvine Beach is by far the most beautiful of all."
Pete Mathews,Leicestershire RC, "Irvine Beach CX showcased just how good Scottish Cylco-cross is. Still can't get over the fact I came 23rd in the elite men's race! Fingers cross there will be another round of the National Trophy here next year."

Tissot UCI Track World Cup
Milton, Canada
It was gold for the women's team pursuit as Laura Kenny, Elinor Barker, Ellie Dickinson and Scottish rider Katie Archibald breezed to glory in a time of 4:18.138 to secure the win in Canada, beating Italy into top spot.
Katie Archibald went on to take gold in the madison with team mate Elinor Barker. Earlier this week Archibald was forthcoming about her ambition to ride the madison in Tokyo 2020, so this result is very promising.
Mark Stewart, partnered with Ollie Wood took silver in the madison and then followed up with a second silver medal in the omniom.Stewart won the first two events, the scratch and tempo races, while fourth place in the elimination had him poised heading into the points finale.
But a lap gain from France’s 2017 omnium world champion Benjamin Thomas saw gold cruelly snatched from his grasp, the 23-year-old riding home for silver with 134 points.
Thomas finished with 144 while New Zealand’s Campbell Stewart took bronze, two points shy of Stewart’s total.
The men's team pursuit team, including Stewart, secured bronze in Canada.
HUUB Wattbike Test team showed exactly why they are a squad on the up. After a strong showing in France the quartet were determined to take home a medal time around. The four of Dan Bigham, Harry Tanfield, with Scottish riders Jonny Wale, and John Archibald took the silver medal behind Denmark.
