Cardiff’s streets were flooded by 10,000 cyclists and pedestrians for the city’s first car-free Sunday today, with many enjoying the city on two wheels as part of the HSBC UK Let’s Ride Cardiff event.

In the glorious South Wales sunshine locals got on their bikes to ride the 5km course, taking in a number of local landmarks and a host of family-friendly activities along the way.

The event – organised in partnership by British Cycling, HSBC UK, Cardiff City Council and Welsh Cycling – was the first in a series of 14 events taking place this summer.

Welsh rugby legend Shane Williams and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Lewis Oliva attended the event, joining in with the festivities and encouraging participants along the way. The celebratory atmosphere continued later in the afternoon, with Cardiff City’s promotion parade following soon after.

Further opportunities to join guided, free-to-attend bike rides in and around Cardiff are available at www.letsride.co.uk.
