As part of the Big Pedal, 4 teams of HSBC employees have cycled over 1,000km from Dumfries, Sheffield, Cardiff and London all the way to Birmingham!

The riders applied to take part in the ride and have a wide range of abilities. Only 9 weeks ago, Charlotte Lowry had not called herself a cyclist however, got stuck into the training plan provided by British Cycling and has now accomplished cycling over 400K in 3 days riding from Dumfries to Birmingham as part of the Scotland Team.

"It’s been such a fantastic challenge, both physically and mentally tough. I never thought I’d be able to cycle that far and we’ve had such a great team sprit, I’m so happy to have made it!” Charlotte Lowry, AML Investigations Senior Officer.

Ian Stuart and a party of well wishers were in Birmingham to welcome them on their arrival at the Rep Theatre, just a stones throw from the new HBSC UK HQ. “I don’t envy the cyclists, but I do admire them. They have done the bank proud and its been great to welcome them at the end of their journey here in Birmingham” Ian Stuart.

The riders have committed to fundraising as part of the challenge for the Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer Scotland, HSBC’s nominated charity. Many of the riders, have also taken cycling out into their network to support the challenge, with Rebecca Rush’s branch network in the South having stationary bikes for her customers to jump on, whilst she’s on the road, all in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.
