Serge Pauwels took overall victory in the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire as the Belgian won Sunday's final stage into Fox Valley, Sheffield.

The Team Dimension Data crossed the line with teammate Omar Fraile in second.

Pauwels attack alone at the crest of Cote de Wigtwizzle, the second of four categorised climbs in the final 25km of the 194.5km stage from Bradford.

He built a lead of 30 seconds on the Cote de Ewden Heightbefore his advantage was cut to nine seconds on the final climb out of Midhopestones.

But the chasing group could not bridge across except for Fraile on a superb day for Team Dimension Data.

Britain's Tao Geoghegan Hart, of Team Sky, was fifth on the stage and eighth overall. 

"This was a team performance because we had Bernie Eisel pulling all day and it was up to me to be up there in the final," Pauwels said on ITV4.

"I chose the right moment to try and jump. I didn't know a lot about what was going on behind me because once I got the 25 seconds lead, (team boss) Roger Hammond was telling me not to look behind me so I was trying to do a time trial for the last 10km.

"I was always hoping to win at least one race in my career so it's super nice to win two at the same time."
