Ciara Horne has been impressed with her recovery, and feels she is now on track to compete In Glasgow later this week.

Ciara crashed on a training ride just days before the National Road and Time Trial Championships, leaving her with two fractured ribs which disrupted her final preparations for her first Commonwealth Games with Team Wales.

“After having three weeks off the track, I was expecting to get on and not have any track legs whatsoever, but thankfully it has gone a lot better than expected. I’m not too far off my best [times] which is really good.

The feeling in camp is really good, everyone is really supportive of each other and we are all excited for the Commonwealth Games.”

Glasgow 2014 will be the first time for Ciara to pull on the Welsh jersey at a Commonwealth Games, although she has been a key member of the Welsh set-up competing in the last two Track World Cup series’ for Wales’ Team USN.

There, along with Elinor Barker and Amy Roberts, she won two World Cup medals competing in the Team Pursuit. Earlier this year, Ciara also got her first opportunity to ride for Great Britain on the road at the Friends’ Life Women’s Tour, but it is on the track where she is hoping to make her mark.

“The Individual Pursuit is on Friday, that’s my main focus. I’d like to give a strong performance, given my injury I’m not going to be in my best shape, so I have to go out there and do my best.

It’s my first multi-sport event so I’m looking forward to embracing that and really enjoying the event.”

Ciara will be competing in the Individual Pursuit on Friday 25 July, before competing in the road events the following week.
