Rider Profile

Name: Laura Murray

Primary Club: Breast Cancer Care

Biography:

I was born in Aberdeen and lived in Stonehaven for over 20 years, and am now living in Banchory. I work as an Active Schools Co-ordinator 4 days per week. I started doing some Duathlons and Time Trials with my dad about 10 years ago and then competed at triathlon at an age group level. I took a year out in 2008 to go traveling with my husband and on returning to training I only really wanted to ride my bike as had missed it so much! I thought all you could do on a bike was TT so signed up for a season of TTs and Sportives! Thankfully, I got into the Gold 4 Glasgow programme, which supported me getting into road racing. Since then I have competed in races in the UK and Holland. I am now starting my 4th season of road racing and will be riding for the Breast Cancer Care team. This will be my first season of riding with a team so am really looking forward to it. My aim for the season brings the challenge of qualifying for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games for the road team

Who Inspires you and why:

Lizzie Arminstead and Emma Pooley . Look up to other more experienced riders who I compete and train with.

How do you celebrate/relax after a big event:

I usually have to drive home for a very long time – then stop off at my Mum and Dad’s to see my family and friends – this usually involves getting looked after :-)  I am not that good at relaxing or sitting still so maybe a cycle with my husband or dad for coffee and cake!
