Rider Profile

Name: Cameron Balfour

Primary Club: ASL 360

Biography

Hello there, my name is Cameron Balfour. I’m a 17 year old from Heriot in the middle of no-where, or more commonly known as the Scottish Borders. I have spent most of my base racing years doing Cross Country, riding for CNP Orbea but eventually crossed totally over to the road due to my incapability in keeping the bike up right. I’m now racing for ASL360 and absolutely loving the team set up: the strength of the guys on the bike, the team moral and most importantly the extremely juicy patter! Outside of the bike, I’m in my 6th year at Galashiels Academy studying English, French, Modern Studies and Geography. It’s a bit of a logistical nightmare trying to cram in my studying, training and racing but then I see my Mum and Dad working in full time jobs, my Mum studying at University and on top of that they still manage to drive me and my brother the length and breadth of the country. (Maybe my life isn’t so crammed after all.) Really couldn’t do it without their help!

Career Highlights to date

Despite my shocking technical skills I was selected to ride on the British Olympic Talent Team in 2011 for Cross Country. I picked up a couple of decent results on the mountain bike coming away from the UK School games a triple medallist and 2nd, 6th and 9th place in rounds of the British series. On the road I have competed in multiple stage races, possibly the best to date being 5th place over all at the Mayo Youth Tour and 9th in the last stage of Tour of Kent – my first senior stage race.

Who Inspires you and why

Well, couldn’t really put my finger on any one person I’ve had many over the years. As a younger rider cutting my teeth in the racing scene Gary Robson – a local rider did so much work with me. He taught me so much about training, the etiquette of racing and so much more! All the guys on the Team, my coach Alan Denman really bring me on so much, feeding off each other and constantly learning. Also riders such as Phillipe Gilbert, Tom Boonen, Filippo Pozatto, Iljo Keisse and Thomas De Gendt just for pure classiness
