Glasgow 2018 European Championships: Meet the Scottish Riders

Glasgow is gearing up to become the sporting capital of Europe as it hosts the European Championships. For the first time ever, track cycling, road cycling, mountain bike and BMX European championships will all take place at the same event A strong team of riders will be represent Great Britain on Track, MTB, BMX and Road. Here's a closer look at the Scottish riders competing.

Katie Archibald

Age – 24

Discipline – Women’s Track Endurance

Katie will be taking to the boards of the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome to compete in the women’s track endurance races at the European Championships. Katie will be looking to carry on this year’s success which has seen her win a gold medal in the Madison and a silver medal in the team pursuit at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Neah Evans

Age – 27

Discipline – Women’s Track Endurance

Neah, having had  success this year at the Gold Coast Commonwealth games which saw her come away with a silver medal in the scratch race and a bronze medal in the points race, will be hoping to be on the podium in Glasgow as she competes in the women’s track endurance races at the European Championships.

Jack Carlin

Age – 21

Discipline – Men’s Track Sprint

Jack will be hoping for home success when he competes in the men’s track sprint events at the European Championships this August. Winning gold in the team sprint at two consecutive Junior and U23 Track World Championships in 2016 and 2017 he will be hoping to mimic this success in Glasgow.

John Archibald

Age – 27

Discipline – Men’s Track Endurance

John will take to the boards to compete for Great Britain at the European Championships, hoping for success in front of a home crowd. Making a switch to the track has brought him great success with a Silver medal in the IP at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Gold in the Point’s race at the British Track Champs, plus bronze in the IP and the Team Pursuit.

Grant Ferguson

Age – 24

Discipline – Cross Country Mountain Bike

Grant Ferguson will be battling it out at Cathkin Braes in hopes of coming away on top at this year’s European Championships in Glasgow. This year has seen him winning Gold at the British Cyclo-Cross Championships.
