Scott Walford (Iceni Velo) executed a perfect plan as he raced away from the field to take victory in the Stradasport Summer Road Race in Norfolk on Sunday.

The 43-year-old Norwich resident broke away off the front with team-mate Chris Beck in tow in what turned out to be an excellent game plan.

They managed to stay away together until, with 10 miles remaining, Chris Beck fell away, exhausted. But he had played his part in the victory for his team mate as Walford crossed the line with no competition in sight.

Cambridge CC’s Anthony Purnell was in no man’s land between Walford and the chasing pack of eight riders and he finished second.

The eight riders formed into a group with seven miles to go, leaving the peleton out of the points.

Results:

1 Scott Walford (Iceni Velo)
2 Anthony Purnell (Cambridge CC) @ 45 secs
3 Will Bamber (VC Norwich) @ 1:15
4 George Georgellides (Finchley RT)
5 Thomas Gillingwater (StradaSport)
6 Mark Jacobi (Peak Road Club)
7 Tim Guy (Iceni Velo)
8 Mark Yale (Stowmarket & District CC)
9 Ben Wright (VC Revolution)
10 Louis Gyde (CC Breckland) all @ same time
