Report: Snowdon Sports

Second-season rider Brett Stocks (Sharrow CC) led in a three-man break to win the 40-mile Witham St Hugh road race after eight fast-run laps of a flat Lincolnshire circuit.

The Sheffield 39-year-old crossed the line ten metres clear of Adam Gascoigne (Team Pedal Power), contesting his first road race of the season, and veteran Jon Hall (BC Private Member) with Tony Childs (Stafford RC) taking the bunch sprint for fourth place 20 seconds later.

An early pace between 28 and 29 mph saw riders dropping off the back on the opening lap with Hall constantly on the attack before Rick Lister (Ellmore Factory Racing) tried to go clear on lap six but was also brought back.

The winning move came on the penultimate lap when Hall finally escaped along with Stocks and Gascoigne, and they stayed away to the finish where Stocks proved strongest on the slight incline to the line.
