Report: Snowdon Sports

Ipswich BC rider Hugo Robinson secured victory in a sprint finish to the E123 race in the fifth and final round of the Elveden Races in Suffolk on Saturday.

The 18-year-old from Ashfield, near Ipswich, edged to a sprint victory ahead of Neon Velo rival James Jobber, 19 and from Wivenhoe, while the elite podium was completed with another teenager, 19-year-old Alex Anderson from Welwyn, taking third for ASFRA Racing.

Almost 200 riders were present for the final event of the 2013 series, which utilises a 3.7-mile circuit on the private roads of the Elveden Estate.

There was some great racing, but all but one ended in a bunch sprint despite the tiring wind threatening to break up the bunches on each lap.

In the 3/4 Cat race, 32-year-old Willem de Boer from Cambridge CC took the win, ahead of breakaway rival Paul Groombridge (Iceni Velo), with the rest of the field being around 35 seconds further back at the end of their 26-mile race.

Army CU rider Kevin Bell pipped Strada Sport rival Ben Howell to victory in the 26-mile fourth category race, while fastest of the women was Clare Gillott (Elite Cycling) who held off Lee Valley YCC rider Francesca Morgans-Slader.

The 26-mile Youth A race went to Colchester Rovers CC rider Frank Longstaff, while the shorter 18-mile Youth B race was won by Iceni Velo’s Dougal Toms.
