Junior riders filled the top two places in the opening 28-mile round of the Northants CRA Summer Handicap Road Race Series with victory going to Kristian Woolf (Prestige VC).

The Kings Cliffe 18-year-old finished half a length clear of Ollie Maxwell (Forme Bikes UK), 16, in an uphill sprint contested by 29 riders after five laps of the Southwick circuit.

Both came from the ten-strong scratch group giving six and a half minutes to the front of the race which eventually came together inside the last half lap as the first two of the four groups on the road, who started three minutes apart, joined up after two laps and made a bold attempt to stay clear.

Mark Bleakley (Peterborough CC) crossed the line a couple of lengths down for third place – his third of the year in NCRA events.
