Ewan McDonald (NFTO) came out on top of a five-man break at Round 4 of the SSSCCRRL in a rain-soaked Staffordshire.

On a cold evening with strong winds the heavens opened in the last five miles on a course which was rolling and featured narrow twisty lanes.

McDonald, 21 and from Kidderminster, took his first win of the season on his debut appearance at the SSSCCRRL handicap league.

The handicap groups all came together with just under two of the five laps remaining and immediately a five-man break was established which stayed away to the finish.

Todd Hotchkiss, the 20-year-old Clay Cross Road Team rider from Telford, claimed second and David Starkey (Fred Williams Cycles) moved into the overall leader’s jersey by taking third.
