Racing on home ground, Ryan Bevis (NFTO) charged clear of lone rival Dan Davies (Team Wallis CT) on the final climb to continue his good start to the season with victory in Cwmcarn Paragon RC’s 66-mile road race in Powys.
The race was run off in wind and rain, and 31-year-old Bevis was in attacking mode from the start to instigate an early three-man break.
First time up the finishing climb Bevis was out on his own with only Mark Perry (Dream Cycles) left for company, and it stayed that way until they were joined by Davies at the start of the fifth lap of seven.
Davies sealed the ride of the day with his impressive effort to bridge the gap, and driving the pace at several stages in the penultimate lap.
A group of six chasers formed behind them and were making up ground on the final lap, getting to within a minute, before Bevis and Davies pushed on, forcing Perry to drop back.
“I attacked Dan on the steepest part of the climb to the finish and managed to get a gap which I held to the line,” said Bevis. “I’m so happy with the win, especially as it’s on my local course.”
Third place went to Phil Mason (Climb On Bikes RT).
