Wet weather failed to deter some 300 riders from turning out for a successful first event on a new 3.5-mile closed circuit in the grounds of Lord Iveagh’s 22,500-acre estate in north Suffolk which produced some excellent racing.

Victory in the feature 12-lap elite race went to all-rounder Stuart Pryce (Strada-Sport) at the expense of St Ives CC duo Felix Barker and Malcolm Smith, who had broken clear as early as the second lap.

Pryce got across to them, and after Tom Fitzpatrick (Sigma-Sport) had made it four at the front on the third lap only to then puncture, the three leaders worked well together to stay away until the finish.

“I didn’t think I’d got any form coming into the race, I arrived late so wasn’t really warmed up, and I found the first couple of laps in the break very hard,” said 34-year-old Pryce, from Beccles, who finished ninth in the Crest CC road race the previous weekend.

“But there must be something there, and it’s good to win.

“It was unfortunate about the weather, but it’s a very good circuit with a little bit of a drag in it, and the surface is fantastic.”

Twice British circuit race champion, Hannah Barnes (MG-Maxifuel Pro Cycling) won the women’s race at the main expense of her younger sister, Alice (Scott Contessa Epic).
