Event: 2 March 2013
Report: Andrew Johnston/Snowdon Sports

A still and sunny day at Croft Circuit saw the first round of the Croft Women’s Season . Racing in handicap format, the first group had a 90 second start of around half a lap.

The scratch group made a steady start and all working hard to make the catch, a couple of riders dropped out of the first group as their efforts to stay away took their toll.

After six laps, the catch was made and after a series of attacks from Katherine Broadbent and Iona Sewell, the race was brought back together.

On the bell lap, nobody seemed to want to make a move so it came down to a bunch sprint with Broadbent leading out the pack and in the last 100 metres, it was in the bag.

This was Catherine’s first win on the road and based on her performance, it won’t be her last.

The next race on the series is next Sunday at Middlesbrough Cycling Circuit for more information check out www.womenscyclesport.co.uk
