Cycling Development North West (CDNW) are pleased to confirm that they will be hosting the British Cycling National Junior Men’s Road Race Championships in 2013.
The event will be held on Sunday 9 June 2013 in Lazonby, Cumbria. The small town of Lazonby falls under Eden District Council just north of Penrith in close proximity to the M6 corridor.
The event will be run over seven laps (112km) of the challenging Lazonby course. Event headquarters will be at Lazonby School within the quiet northern village. Riders in the north may already be familiar with the Lazonby course especially as CDNW use the same course for their league event which falls later on in June.

The event organisers want to make this a real community event and have already been in talks with Eden District Council and the local community. Border City Wheelers will assist CDNW in the delivery of the event helping to provide marshal’s to help guide the race safely around the course.
The Highways Agency in the area has already confirmed their support by making any repairs needed to the roads on the course in the week leading up to the event.
Race organiser Matt Winston said: “When I found out there wasn’t an organiser for the National Junior Road Race I thought it was a great opportunity to do something in a voluntary capacity. Of course I couldn’t do it on my own so I approached CDNW and Border City Wheelers for their assistance.
“We wanted to use the best possible sporting course and Lazonby stood out straight away. It’s a great course and I wouldn’t describe it as overly hilly but it’s tough and up and down all day. There’s a fantastic little drag from the village up to the finish which will need to see a well timed sprint to take the win”
