Road: Wilkinson beats the odds at Ulverston

On the way back from illness, Ian Wilkinson (Endura racing) beat the odds to win Sunday’s 76-mile round of the CDNW Road Race League in Cumbria in a five-up sprint.

Rapha Condor Sharp had three riders in the leading group, who rode away from the rest of the race to finish nine minutes clear, but 33-year-old Wilkinson, had the speed to beat them all and record his first victory a Tour de Normandie stage win in March.

Chris Jennings and Richard Handley filled the next two places for Rapha with Ben Greenwood ( taking fourth spot and Mike Cuming fifth.

Robert Palmer (Stretford Wheelers CC) secured the first win of his comeback season after two years out in the supporting 52-mile race for third and fourth categories.
