Series leader Mick Bath (API-Metrow) tightened his grip on the Ford CC Go-Race Series with victory in the penultimate round at the Dunton Test Track in Essex.

With two second places and two thirds in previous races, the 53-year-old veteran, from Great Leighs, finally made it to the top of the podium by outsprinting Billy Stewart (Essex Roads CC) as the field came back together almost on the line.

Lap primes were shared between Stewart, Rob Young (Essex Roads CC) and Lee Tanner (Velo Schils-Interbike RT) as the field consistently lapped the 1.6-mile circuit in just over four minutes before a group of seven riders – Essex Roads trio Young, Matt Heath and Tim Pettit, Martin Ryan and Jason Fitchew of Ford CC, Ashley Golders (Maldon CC) and Darren De-Beger (Glendene CC) – went clear after the 11-lap sprint.

It looked a promising move, but the chasing pack had other ideas and closed the gap on the final lap to set up the final sprint for Bath.
