It promises to be a packed weekend of cycling.

Best places for spectators

The race route for the Premier Calendar event is spectator friendly, the first 75 miles are over 7 laps of a circuit northwest of Stockton. The final 25 miles are over six laps of a totally closed road circuit on Stockton Riverside. Route maps are available on the event website. Please bear in mind the Riverside finish area is a closed road circuit, but there will be ample free parking in the town centre, just a few minutes walk from Riverside.

Riders to watch out for

The all conquering Endura Racing team will have a full complement of riders at Stockton, including prolific winners Zak Dempster, Alexandre Blain and Russ Downing. They will be the team to beat, but don't rule out the other main squads who have been snapping at Endura's heels all season. In particular the Raleigh GAC team have Russell Hampton who put in a sterling performance at the National Championships in Ampleforth last month to podium with the bronze medal. Hampton was the only rider capable of taking on the might of Team Sky at the Champs and if he has maintained his form he will be the one to watch at Stockton.

The organiser predicts

British Cycling spoke to Geoff Lloyd  and asked him for a prediction of what might happen at the race? He said, "The route of the Velo29 Stockton Grand Prix is a major contrast to the Richmond Grand Prix which I've organised for the past five years in that it's geographically less demanding for the riders (Editor: he means less hills). But that promises an open, fast and very competitive race, in my time as a race organiser I've encountered every style of rider and racing, and all I can predict is to expect the un-expected."
