Liam Yates (In Gear-Quickvit Trainsharp) secured victory in the second round of the Surrey League’s 4th Cat Series, staged by Thames Velo at the Dunsfold Park circuit near Cranleigh on Friday.

Yates, the 18-year-old son of Team Sky Directeur Sportif Sean Yates, held off UK Biking.net rider Alistair Bunting for the win, while 36-year-old Bunting in turn beat Kingston Wheelers’ Tim Watling to the line, improving on the fourth spot he secured in the opening round a week earlier.

Veteran Jason Ginn, the 41-year-old Team ASL360 rider from Horsham, just missed out on a podium finish, but will have been pleased with his fourth placing after failing to finish in the opening round last week.
