Road: Knox wins Aughton Road Race

James Knox (Mountivation) won the Aughton Road Race in Lancashire on Sunday after helping to form a five-rider breakaway at around half distance.

The 42-mile race for 3/4th category riders sprung into life after around 22 miles with a group of five riders escaping and working well together to pull away gradually.

By the line they had established a lead of just over a minute, with Knox taking the win in the sprint from Wheelbase rival Steve Clarke and Neil Robinson (Lune RCC) third.

The promoting club;s Ian Rutherford (Lune RCC) clipped off the front of the bunch in the last lap to finish sixth, 1:10 down on the leaders, while the bunch came home around 30 seconds further off the pace.
