The Southport Dolan Races drew to a close this week and Charlie Tanfield of Velo 29 CT finished top of the under 16 group two table despite never winning a race.

Tanfield amassed four podium placings in the five races that made up the series and has shown how consistency can win titles in this sort of event.

This week, he finished third in both the races with Levi Moody (Pedalsport CC) winning the first and Salt Ayre Cog Set’s John Didsbury taking second.

Moody finished fourth in the second race and this gave him six points which was not enough to catch Tanfield in the overall standings.

Joel Partington (Sport City Velo) finished top of the table in group one of the under 16s after riding to second place in the first race before stepping up to win the second.

Bolton Hot Wheels’ Aaron Adamson, who kept Partington from first position in the first race, came second in the second race and also finished runner up in the league standings.

In the Youth B races, Matthew Draper of Team Royal London 360 Isle of Man clocked up his third and fourth wins of the series to ensure he topped the standings.

Reece Wood of Aire Valley RT missed last week’s races and that allowed Matthew Walls of Velocity RT to pip him to second in the table.

Alistair Leivers of Blackpool Youth Cycle Association took the Youth C title, with a win and a second placing to take his tally up to 54 points. Alistair was the deserved winner of the series, having never finished out of the top two.

Nathan Hawthorn proved to be his main competition throughout the series, having only finished out of the top two in the second race of this week. He takes second place overall.

Matti Hegglestone of Beacon Wheelers has won five of the six races in Youth D event his march to the title. It was two wins out of two this weekend for him.

In the Youth E, James Higham (H Middleton CC) won the series with 52 points after back to back wins on the day.
