Elinor Barker gave the GB Cycling Team a great start to the World Road Championships with second place in an extremely tight Junior Women's Time Trial. Finishing under 2 seconds down on the winner, Jessica Allen of the Australian team, Barker was one second clear of third placed Mieke Kronger of Germany - all three medallists were over 12 second clear of the rest of the field.
Barker was only fourth at the intermediate split, but put in a storming run to the finish, pulling back three and a half seconds on the eventual winner in the process.
Seventeen year old Barker is from Cardiff and is the current national Junior pursuit champion and earlier in the year won a silver medal in the same discipline at the European Junior championships.
The other British rider in the event, Hannah Barnes, was out of luck, picking up a puncture during her ride and finishing 19th.
