STAGE REPORT

On a cool but dry morning, Sky's Alex Dowsett (pictured above) won the time trial stage of the 2011 Tour of Britain with a stunning ride around Whitehall. His time of 10m 14.73s put him a comfortable 5 seconds clear of runner up, Lars Boom of Rabobank, the race leader and now almost certainly race winner.

Dowsett's team-mate Steve Cummings also put in a great ride to claim fourth and moved into second place on the GC. Also moving up, one of the riders of the race, Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, who rode to sixth place overall. Meanwhile, Dan Lloyd one of the big losers, moved down from third to tenth.

Meanwhile, Geraint Thomas moved into the blue points jersey after his strong ride, offering the Sky team a chance to claim a major prize after the final stage.

POST-STAGE RIDER FEEDBACK ON TWITTER

Immediately after the stage, the other British riders were quick to congratulate Alex Dowsett on his win, though they were less convinced by his apparel!

Ben Swift: "Ohh yeahh @alexdowsett rockin his new White skinsuit to the win in the TT."

Geraint Thomas: "Congrats to Mr. Dowsett @alexdowsett for his TT win, but still not digging the all white skinsuit mate!! Sort it out"

Mark Cavendish: "Uuurghhh. It's not often I do those TimeTrial efforts anymore! Think I've taken a layer off the inside of my lungs! Nice win by @alexdowsett"

For Dowsett himself, it was another impressive win in the capital, following his Smithfield Nocturne victory earlier in the season: "Yeeee blumin love time trialling and london!"
